Bar and chain lubricant is designed to preserve the life of any chainsaw. The bar and the chain are in constant contact with one another and without lubricant the extra friction will slow the speed of the chain, cause excessive fuel burning, and produce extra heat that could damage your saw. There is a separate reservoir in your chainsaw specifically for bar and chain oil, and you should refill it every time you refuel your saw. A vital aspect of bar oil is its “tackiness”, or its ability to resist slinging off the end of the chainsaw. Oil specifically made for chainsaws will adhere to the bar better and cut down on wasted oil. Winter versions of bar and chain oil should be used in the colder months as it's thinner and will lubricate the bar and chain better in colder temperatures.

Use bar and chain oil to:

  • Keep the chain lubricated and reduce friction
  • Help prevent rust and corrosion
  • Prevent sap and debris from collecting on the chain
