A pickeroon or hookaroon (also spelt pickaroon and hookeroon) is a woodworking tool that is used for stacking, dragging, and rearranging wood. They're designed in such a way to “pick” or “hook” into the wood, allowing you to move firewood or logs quickly without bending over to pick them up. The only difference between the pickeroon and the hookaroon is the spike shape. On a hookaroon, the spike has more of a hook shape so that it is more difficult for the wood to slip off. Pickeroons have a straight spike that won't hold a log as well, but also has less of a chance to get stuck in a log. They are also great tools for reaching into or across machines to clear a jam or move cants and logs. These tools extend your reach or keep your hands out of harms way. As a rule of thumb, pickeroons are great for lighter and smaller pieces of wood that don't have the weight to fall off the spike. Heavier and larger logs should be moved with a hookaroon so they don't fall off the spike, and a hookaroon may become stuck in lighter pieces of wood.
